TMTV vs MRVP
How does TrainMasters TV compare to Model Railroader Video Plus?
COST COMPARISON: VIDEO + MAGAZINE
Because MRH is free, the apples-to-apples comparison is a Model Railroader Video Plus (MRVP) membership plus a Model Railroader (MR) magazine subscription.
NOTE: We've seen some one-time special subscription deals for Model Railroader magazine as low as $29 per year, which drops the total price of MR + MRVP to $56/yr. At $49.50 for MRH + TMTV is still $6.50 less.
COST COMPARISON: VIDEO ONLY, YEARLY
A stand-alone (without the magazine) cost comparison isn't really apples-to-apples, but let's go ahead and look at it anyway.
COST COMPARISON: MONTH-BY-MONTH
TrainMasters TV and Model Railroader Video Plus also have a month-by-month membership, and some folks prefer to buy that way, so let's compare those. To get the most similar comparison, we assume you also get the Kindle digital edtion of Model Railroader magazine month-by-month (in other words, you don't subscribe to MR).
*Subscribing to MRH magazine is free and MRH subscribers get a 10% off coupon code in each month's bonus downloads.
COST COMPARISON: CONCLUSION
We've seen some modelers make comparisons claiming MRVP is several times cheaper than TMTV, but those comparisons use MRVP's monthly ADD-ON fee for MR subscribers (~$2.95), so you're already paying Kalmbach $40-some per year for your magazine subscription. You need to look at the TOTAL PACKAGE, which is the magazine PLUS the video membership.
When you compare apples-to-apples and include the cost of the magazine too, TMTV becomes very competitive, and generally costs less if you use your MRH Subscriber 10% off coupon code.
Of course, cost is only one aspect to consider when joining up as a member of TrainMasters TV. No other on-line media outlet offers model railroaders more total minutes of new ad-free content every month than TMTV. From how-to segments, to layout tours, to feature documentaries, TrainMasters TV entertains, teaches and inspires!
