A 3D printer in your workshop?

Model railway enthusiasts are generally open to embracing new technologies. We’re early adopters, and this is generally a good thing. Sometimes, however, our enthusiasm for technologies that are still in beta-testing means we assess – and reject – tools and techniques early in their life cycle. Our first impression then informs our opinion of the technology, even as it matures and gets better.

Such is the case with 3D Printing.

TrainMasters TV versus Model Railroader Video Plus

Here at TrainMasters TV (TMTV), we don’t spend a lot of time looking at what the competition is doing – namely at Model Railroader Video Plus (MRVP). We prefer to focus on making our video content as good as it can be and to produce videos on topics we have a passion about and feel modelers really want. As for the competition, we don’t try to counter anything they might be doing.

Watch TMTV on your big screen TV

While it's been possible to watch TMTV on your big screen TV for a while, but from the questions we get about it, it's clear some don't know how to do it.

That means they're watching TMTV from their computer - how painful! Or if you're mobile savvy, then you know how to watch TMTV from your tablet or phone - but still!

How about watching TMTV on your big screen TV, so everyone can enjoy it!

Well, it's not that hard to do, thanks to Google's $35 Chromecast device. Or if you happen to have a Roku or an Apple TV, we show you how to do that as well.

Decoding DCC Decoded

One of the biggest challenges in producing TrainMasters TV - and one that I never expected - has been getting people to understand exactly what it is we do. If you think that getting friends and family to understand your hobby can be difficult, imagine trying to explain a TV-show-about-model-trains-made-specifically-for-seasoned-model-railroaders-that-isn't-on-TV-but-is-actually-on-the-internet-that-people-can-subscribe-to.

Submitting to MyLayout

One of the segments you'll see on TrainMastersTV is called MyLayout.  Our host, Jim Wright, will present video that MRH readers have shot of themselves and their railroads.  Our first MyLayout segment will appear in late-December, and features modeling by Gail and Greg Whayman.

If you would like to be featured in the MyLayout segment, here's what you have to do:
